Yves Saint Laurent Sponsors Rossini's Armida at the Metropolitan Opera with Renee Fleming
The fabulous tale of the sorceress Armida who bewitches a knight during the Crusades, creates an illusory pleasure palace to keep him enchanted and in her sway, and is eventually spurned (of course), Fleming will be reprising her role as Armida , premiering tonight, April 12. The Met apparently added the opera to this season's lineup specifically because the opera diva wished to perform it again. This is the third season of a four-year collaboration, established in 2008, in which a fashion house with historic affiliations to the opera makes a meaningful commitment to the art form. YSL is the exclusive corporate sponsor of tonight's premiere and star-studded gala, which will include a red carpet, cocktails, dinner, and the 8pm performance (streamed live at MetOperaFamily.org ), with the following fashion and celeb-world glitterati in attendance:
