'House': What the Cast is Doing on Their Summer Vacation
    Monday, May 17, 2010

House airs its 6th season finale tonight, but that doesn't mean that the cast will be loafing this summer. Several of them are filming new movies or have another big project they are working on.

Hugh Laurie, aka Dr. Gregory House, is filming a new movie called The Oranges. It's a story of a May-December romance and his co-stars include Allison Janney, Leighton Meester, Catherine Keener, Alia Shawkat, Adam Brody, Oliver Platt, Tim Guinee, Aya Cash, Heidi Kristoffer, Cassidy Gard, Sam Rosen and Stephen Badalamenti and it's expected to be released sometime in 2011. You can see some behind the scenes photos of Hugh Laurie filming in New York City recently here: http://tvhousewatch.com/2010/05/08/photos-...-his-new-movie/

Peter Jacobson, aka Dr. Chris Taub, is filming a movie this summer too. His new film is called And They're Off. IMDb.com gives us this synopsys:

"A comedy centered on a failed horse trainer who desperately wants to be back in the winner's circle."

I'm guessing that Peter was cast in this part at least partially because of his short stature. Some of the other stars in this movie are Sean Astin, Mark Moses, Cheri Oteri, Kevin Nealon, Mo Collins and Martin Mull. This film is expected to be released in 2011.

Jennifer Morrison, aka Dr. Allison Cameron, may be gone from the regular cast, but most House fans still want to know what she's up to. Her Broadway run for The Miracle Worker is over, but she stars in a movie that's expected out later this year. The film is called Warrior. IMDb.com shows this plot summary for the movie:

"The youngest son of an alcoholic former boxer returns home, where he's trained by his father for competition in a mixed martial arts tournament -- a path that puts the fighter on a collision corner with his older brother."

Robert Sean Leonard, aka Dr. James Wilson is in a ducumentary about Herman Melville. The series is called The American Experience and he's in the episode entitled Into the Deep: America, Whaling & the World.

This is a big deal for him, because he generally loves to spend his time at home with his wife and daughter. He's a self-confessed home body.

But the House cast member with the most outside projects is by far Olivia Wilde, aka Dr. Remy Hadley or Thirteen. She's in 5 upcoming movies:

    Tron: Evolution 2010
    Cowboys & Aliens 2011
    Butter 2012
    Tron: Legacy 2010
    The Next Three Days 2010

But so that you are not worried about the future of House, this morning FOX announced House, season 7 will be a part of its Fall lineup. Enjoy tonight's season finale.

'House' exclusive: Olivia Wilde taking leave of absence

    by Michael Ausiello

Olivia Wilde is taking time off from the Fox hit to shoot a starring role in the big-budget sci-fi Western Cowboys & Aliens.

“Olivia will be there at the very beginning of the season, and then she will not be there for a period of time,” explains executive producer Katie Jacobs.

Production on the Jon Favreau-helmed Cowboys — which is set to get under way next month and continue through the summer — is expected to overlap with season 7 of House by at least two months. The film also stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Sam Rockwell. (Fun fact: Lost boy Damon Lindelof co-wrote the script with Fringe exec producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.)

“She had this opportunity and she was really excited about it,” says Jacobs. “We’re very proud of her and very happy for her.”

The seeds of Thirteen’s departure were planted in last night’s season finale when, in the final moments of the episode, the Huntington’s-afflicted doc announced that she was taking a leave of absence from Princeton Plainsboro.

“The two things — the dates that she was going to be away and the story line [we wanted to tell] — worked out,” says Jacobs. “When the story unfolds, it will [all make] sense.”

Question: Thank you for the post-finale House Q&A with Katie Jacobs. Do you know if they are bringing in a new female character to fill the temporary Olivia Wilde void? —Deb

Ausiello: I know of no such plans. Jacobs, however, confirms that Cynthia Watros will be back as Wilson’s former (and current) love, Sam. “She absolutely factors into the beginning of the season,” she says. “Where that relationship ultimately goes I don’t know.” Jacobs notes that this marks the first time that both House and Wilson will be involved in serious relationships simultaneously. “Wilson will be with Sam and House will be with Cuddy,” she points out. “What does it look like for Princeton Plainsboro thematically? Does it work? We’re going to look at that next season.” Speaking of House, don’t forget to check out the first Nurse Jeffrey appisode next Monday. 'House' exclusive: Will Hugh Laurie check out next year?

by Michael Ausiello and Andy Patrick

Imagine the end of House. And with Hugh Laurie’s contract up next season, it could happen. “I have no idea” how much longer the show will run, he tells me. “I only hope we’ll know when the time is right [to close up shop]. When people blunder on for five years after [they should have called it quits]… it gets taken out of your hands. Someone will say, ‘That’s it.’

“But for now,” he adds, “I’m immensely proud of the things we did this season.”

As well he should be. The crushing finale alone stands as the actor’s finest work to date (and that’s saying something!). So, given the quality of material he’s still getting to play, it shouldn’t come as a shock that he says “I am open” to continuing beyond season 7.

Laurie maintains that the idea of hanging up House’s stethoscope for good isn’t something he’s had time to dwell on — not yet, anyway. “This sounds like I’m trying to avoid [the question]. I’m not,” he insists. “I have the brain of a hamster and I can’t think beyond 5 o’clock this afternoon. I really am that stupid.

“I can only say,” he continues, “I think we’ll have a sense next year at some point” about whether to keep going.

Now we know what he thinks. What do you think? Is House nearing the end of the line creatively? Or do you agree with me that it’s just hitting high after high? Sound off below!

Keck's Exclusives: House and Cuddy Get Closer

House's seventh season will open with Dr. House (Hugh Laurie) acting like "a teenager in love skipping school," whisking Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) away for an idyllic day without the pressures of their hospital and her child, says House executive producer Katie Jacobs. "Anywhere other than Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital is an easier place for them to be together in a relationship," says Jacobs. "That's where we start — 'What if we only have each other?' As their day goes on, Cuddy will learn that the locales they visit hold a secret significance.

Want more Keck's Exclusives? Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine.

Naturally, the lovers can't avoid reality forever. "It would be impossible for Cuddy to spend every day as if her child and her professional life don't exist; a little easier for House, since he is somewhat of a child himself," says Jacobs. "But what's cool about Season 7 is that House is going to try to stay off drugs and have a meaningful relationship. We don't rush through this. It's taken six years to get there, so this is not a story that's going to be done in three episodes.

The true test will come in Episode 2, when the couple returns to work — where she's always on top. What happens, asks Jacobs, "when you're sleeping with your boss and she says 'No'?" As the season progresses, Huddy will toy with getting domestic — and try to do normal "couple" things with Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) and Sam (Cynthia Watros), which could cause additional tension. "Will the four of them get along?" teases Jacobs.

As for the rest of the hospital staff, while Jennifer Morrison signed a deal to return for a few episodes as Cameron (at the producers' discretion), don't expect her to fill the slot temporarily vacated by Thirteen while Olivia Wilde shoots a film. Rather, a search is on for a new female doc, likely a romantic partner for one lucky surgeon. For Cuddy's sake, let's just hope this new addition isn't House's type.

Hugh Laurie's message to Huddy fans: "Buckle up"
by Michael Ausiello and Andy Patrick

Hard as it is to imagine, next season on House, Doc Crankypants may be — gasp! — happy. At least happy-ish. In fact, in the premiere, we’ll see him smiling, laughing and canoodling on the beach with at-long-last lady love Cuddy. Clearly, this can only mean one thing: The relationship is doomed, right? “I don’t think [so], necessarily,” Hugh Laurie tells me. “But let’s face it, neither of these characters has a clean license.
“‘Buckle up,’” he adds, “would be my advice.”
Lisa Edelstein, who plays House’s significant other, shares her co-star’s trepidation. “I was terrified of saying ‘I love you,’” she admits. “But I think that in that final scene of season six, Cuddy makes that clear that she’s ready to go for it.”
Laurie is ready, too, weird as it may feel to him. “Even the appearance of happiness [in House] has taken some getting used to,” he says. “I had a week of happiness training before the season started up, and I’m whistling more than usual.”
Is his small-screen counterpart whistling more than he did, say, when he was with Sela Ward’s Stacy? “I’ve always thought of House as a romantic, and I don’t think romantics are much given to comparing,” Laurie demurs. “But speaking as a friend of House, he seems to be attracted to strong women. He likes to get as good as he gives — and I mean that in as many senses as are suitable for a family readership.”
Your thoughts? Can Huddy make it work? Or is the beginning of their romance the end of House as we know (and love) it? Sound off below!

Any scoop on ‘House’s Jennifer Morrison? – Aurore59

As for Morrison scrubbing back in as Cameron, I’m hearing that even though production is underway on the new season, there is no ‘House’ in her immediate future.

House - Amber Tamblyn get Multi-Arc Guest Role

As I teased previously, with Olivia Wilde off House for a while shooting Cowboys & Aliens, the Fox hit will be temporarily adding a new female doc to the roster at Princeton Plainsboro. And now I can tell you who she is: Amber Tamblyn!

The erstwhile Joan of Arcadia, I’m told, will appear in multiple episodes as a whip-smart med student House (Hugh Laurie) recruits for his diagnostic team — despite the fact that she isn’t yet 100 percent qualified to treat patients. And, of course, what I didn’t have to be told was that the youngster will have to find a way to adjust to her new mentor’s unique bedside manner.

So what do you think? I’m pretty much sold on this casting. Although I do kinda wish the Emmy nominee was coming on board for more than a few episodes…

I heard rumours that Marg Helgenberger was not signing onto CSI for the upcoming season. Is that true? —Peter

Amber: Not exactly. The actress’ contract was up at the end of last season, and when CBS didn’t extend it (or didn’t pay her what she wanted, who knows), she made a public fuss and made sure everyone knew she might not return.

A week-and-a-half ago a deal was worked out, though and Helgenberger will return. Surprisingly. As any fan of dramatic shows has surely noticed by now, the major players aren’t shy about axing female leads on aging series. A.J. Cook on Criminal Minds, Jennifer Morrison on House and Liz Vassey on CSI are recent examples of this trend. And even though I’m not personally a fan of the original CSI franchise (with the exception of last season’s finale), there are many viewers just waiting for Catherine Willows’ imminent exit.

Meanwhile, deals for Helgenberger’s co-stars Eric Szmanda and Paul Guilfoyle are all still negotiating their deals for Season 11, while George Eads just inked a new contract to return to the long-running crime-drama.

Exclusive: Jennifer Grey makes a 'House' call

    by Michael Ausiello

Dirty Dancing‘s Jennifer Grey will find herself in a no-win situation when she guest-stars on House this fall, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Grey—who begins work on the House set today—will play Abbey, the mother of an infant daughter who is displaying signs of a life-threatening illness. As House and Co. investigate her daughter’s developing symptoms, Abbey is faced with a treatment decision for her newborn that could affect not only her baby’s life but her own.

Her episode is scheduled to air in mid-October.
