Sometimes, most foreigner of you, have problem with the UCP (User Control Panel) well I'll try to explain it for you to help:

Here's where you can click to it: xXx

Here's the zone you're interest in: xXx

Clicking on the first you access to your profile: The first line (the red selected) xXx is the part you have under your avatar [to make you understand I used mvitto's scan. It's that in red, Vitto with Lisa: xXx]
There you can put an image or a sentence or nothing.
To put an image you have to host it somewhere like tinypic or imageshack and copy the direct link in the space, but it has to be in the image tag

CODE

then click on the first "Amend my profile" button and it's saved!!!

Clicking on the second you access your signature:
That space is the working one, you've to put some codes.
To put the things centered the code is

to put images they've to stay between the tag above or [IMG]....[/IMG]

Clicking on the third you access the avatar settings:
xXx that's what you're interested in. You can put a direct link to it or upload from a folder in your computer. The avatar needs to be not too big, 100x100 it's the best choice you can do
