AFTER HOURS: The 5th Annual Entertainment Weekly Comic-Con Celebration
If your interest lays in entertainment, the hottest night-time soirée of Comic-Con is the Entertainment Weekly Comic-Con celebration.
We fought tooth and nail to get into this gathering of Hollywood’s brightest, and finally, less than 36 hours before it commenced, we were given the green light. Dressed to the nines, we checked-in promptly at 8:15pm and ascended the stairs leading up from Fifth Avenue into “Float,” the Hard Rock Hotels rooftop lounge, where we assumed our spot on the red (black) carpet.
Megan Hilty (Dorothy of Oz) was the first to endure the stroboscopic mayhem of camera flashes as she stepped our way, followed by Colton Hayes and Crystal Reed (Teen Wolf), Danni Purdi, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown and Joel McHale (Community), Dot Marie Jones and Darren Criss (Glee), Jennifer Morrison (Once Upon A Time), Jorge Garcia and Parminder Nagra (Alcatraz), Kit Harrington (Game Of Thrones), Manu Bennett (Spartacus), Deborah Ann Woll, Kevin Alejandro, Nelsan Ellis and Kristin Bauer (True Blood), Blake Anderson, Anders Holm and Adam DeVine (Workaholics), Rose McGowan, Seth Green, Vivica A. Fox, David Arquette and Comic-Con legends Nathan Fillion (Castle) and Joss Whedon.
And what did we learn from this fine crowd of people as they passed down the line? Number one, they’re all massive geeks, whether they show it or not, and number two? They love Comic-Con for the Fans, well and truly. While most of them are locked away on set all day long, they see events such as this as the greatest opportunity to get out and connect with the people who make everything they do possible.
While we may hear and read this all day long n the entertainment press, let me tell you, when you’re watching them say it first hand, this is no sly PR line. These words are a gesture of heartfelt admiration and a welcome reminder that art appreciates life as life appreciates art.
