Exclusive: Once Upon a Time Set to Make Michael Raymond-James a Series Regular for Season 3

    Matt Webb Mitovich

Series co-creator Adam Horowitz first shared the news with us at ABC’s Upfront party on Tuesday evening.

After making his Once debut as Emma’s ex/Henry’s father Neal Cassidy aka Baelfire in the Emma-centric episode “Tallahassee,” Raymond-James heavily recurred in the last string of Season 2 episodes, as Rumple discovered his son in New York City and circumstances then led them back to Storybrooke.

When last seen, Neal had been shot by Tamara, fallen through a portal and ultimately washed ashore in The Fairytale Land That Is, where he was tended to by Aurora, Mulan and Phillip.

Are you happy Raymond-James’ Once alter ego is sticking around? Hit the comments.

Once Upon a Time Season 3 Gets 24 Episodes

    by Kayti Burt

Good news, Once Upon a Time fans! In the wake of the news that our favorite fairy tale adventure has officially been renewed for a third season comes the update from the ABC upfronts that Season 3 will feature 24 episodes — two more than Season 2. Maybe this means we’ll have time to check in with some of our favorite long-lost characters.

We’re doubly excited at this announcement because the longer season will be broken up into two uninterrupted 12-episode runs. This is key for such a serialized drama. OUAT saw its rating slip in Season 2, and we hypothesized that it had something to do with the inconsistent scheduling on ABC’s part. OUAT is still doing relatively well — and hopefully its spin-off, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, will throw some more viewers OUAT’s way— but we still worry about our show. We want it to be around for seasons to come!

And, though we were semi-teasing about how the extra episodes might give us more time to check in with minor characters left by the wayside, we do think OUAT could benefit from a few more episodes to flesh out the story. Now that there are three important worlds — Storybrooke, the Enchanted Forest, and Neverland — we’re worried that we are going to get narrative whiplash. Hopefully, the OUAT Powers That Be will use the extra episodes to slow down the show’s pace rather than to engage in further plot meandering.

Are you excited to see two more episodes in OUAT’s Season 3 run? Let us know in the comments below!

Is it just me, or do you think Hook has feelings for Emma on Once Upon a Time? Any scoop on them would be awesome! –Kelley B
You know my stance on the whole Emma thing: What guy wouldn’t? But where Hook is concerned, seeing as he’s now on a journey with two eligible bachelorettes, the Jolly Roger might transform into the Love Boat. “It’s probably about time he sort of found another love in his life,” Colin O’Donoghue shared with me at season’s end. “But if it was a toss-up between [traveling companions] Regina or Emma, I’m not sure exactly who he’d go for.” Given that Emma is currently reeling from the loss of Neal, “Maybe he’ll have fun with Regina, while he’s waiting for Emma,” the pirate’s portrayer ventures. “Who knows!”

Will Once Upon a Time explain how Mulan and Aurora helped Philip get his soul back from the wraith, before they found an injured Baelfire? –JJ
In a word, kinda. “We’ll hint at it, but we probably aren’t going to show that [back]story for a while,” says cocreator Eddy Kitsis. For one, it’s not like Neal has reason to raise it as a conversation topic. But more importantly, Kitsis explains, “One of the things about Season 3 is we’ve really tried to focus on the core characters, including the six people on that boat and Neal. We do eventually want to get to that [Philip/wraith] story, but we’re coming out of the gate with the people on that boat.”

Is there any way that Once Upon a Time‘s Ariel and Regina already met? Assuming that the “certain mermaid” Regina referred to in Episode 1×12, “Skin Deep,” was Ariel? –Mirza
I suspect you are onto something, though cocreator Adam Horowitz will only say that “we might” flash back to that aforementioned encounter during JoAnna Garcia’s turn as the Little Mermaid.

Least year, OUAT ran a one-hour special to recap the season before the new season starts. Do you know if they will be doing that again? –Bernadette
Yes, they shall. Once Upon a Time: Journey to Neverland will air Sunday, Sept. 29 at 7/6c, leading into the Season 3 opener.

Smolderderavin: To be honest all we want are Rumbelle spoilers :)) so if you could please get some we'll forever love you, you know.
We're all about eternal admiration! Even though our beloved Rumple (Robert Carlyle) and Belle (Emilie De Ravin) are worlds apart, that does not mean that we won't see them together. To quote Rumple, "Neverland is a place where imagination runs wild," so just keep that rule in mind in the second episode. Bonus Scoop: Their scenes together are better than we could've ever hoped for. So sweet and so caring.

EffulgentlightQ: Does our Captain get to throw some punches or is he on the receiving end?
Both! There's a wicked fight in the first episode, and waters are looking rough for our Jolly Roger shipmates. We all know that despite being ridiculously attractive, Charming (Josh Dallas) and Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) don't really have a whole lot in common and this leads to some hot alpha male struggles.

Lukadrommi: Anything on Hook & Emma would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks!
Ahoy, matey! Do we spy a CaptainSwan shipper? Welcome aboard! As you know, Emma (Jennifer Morrison) is under the impression that Neal (Michael Raymond-James) is dead, and as you should recall, Hook and Baelfire were once very close. However, this tangled web of friendships and affections do not stop Hook from getting his flirt on at any chance he gets. Their chemistry is electric, no matter how hard Emma tries to fight it.

TenacityandCalm: Please find out if/when we'll see more of Emma's past, especially her time in the foster care system.
We will get a sneak peek into Emma's past in the very first episode of season three scene! We all know that 11 years ago, Emma gave up her baby boy, but did you know how incredibly heartbreaking that decision was for her? And yes, Emma's time in foster care is also addressed. Kuddos to Jennifer Morrison for bringing tears to our eyes multiple times in these first two episodes.

Txangelwolf: Will Prince Eric be in more than 1 episode this season?
Why, yes! Prince Eric (Gil McKinney) will be appearing in more than one episode. In fact, we've got scoop from the creators on this new prince. Horowitz spills, "Our take on Prince Eric is slightly different then what you saw in the movie, but it is hopefully honoring what people adore about that movie." Kitsis adds, "Though our Ariel (JoAnna Garcia) really focuses much more on her and her journey and she also has a connection to one of our characters that you'll see in her story." Look for the little mermaid in episode six!

RobertBordelon1: Will Regina be on her best behavior in #Neverland?
Nope! But that's why we love her. Regina's (Lana Parilla) motto always will be magic first, questions later, but that type of haughty, easy-way-out behavior is definitely not appreciated in Neverland. However she and Hook do have an amazingly sweet scene together that will make you look at villains in a whole new light.

EvilDearie12: If I can ask a question, anything about Rumpelstiltskin in the first two episodes that are not too spoiler-y?
Get ready to embrace your inner evil! The Dark One is back and just as wicked as we remember. However, Neverland is a place that makes your confront your past, and Rumple's past is much more twisted then we could ever imagine. Two words: Daddy issues.

Motormouthcrazy: Can u ask them If we will hear Emma call Snow and Charming mom and dad again anytime soon
The M-word is definitely addressed in the second episode, but not in the happy way that you would hope. Kitsis says that Emma will be facing a difficult realization this season. He explains, "Emma looks at Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) as her mom, but does she actually think of her as her mom?" It would be very strange if you were the same age as your parents…

Keyzee29: Hope for Neal and Emma??!
There's always hope! Especially because Neal is willing to do absolutely anything to get back to the woman he loves. And by anything, we mean embracing the one thing in his life that he has always tried to stay away from. Bonus Scoop: Hearing Neal explain to Mulan (Jamie Chung) how much he cares about Emma will tug on your SwanFire-loving heartstrings.

AnnKine: Some Robin Hood scoop would be great. What's his story this season? Will he get his own backstory episode?
We will see new Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) in the premiere, and guess what?—It's not via flashback! Robin Hood is one of the lucky few to have stayed behind in the Enchanted Forest post-curse has made himself quite comfortable in a castle that is filled with dark secrets. He'll be helping Neal in his quest to get back to Emma and according to the OUAT creators, he'll be getting some major screen time this season.

Don't miss the spellbinding season three premiere of Once Upon a Time Sunday at 8 p.m. on ABC!

Once Upon a Time Spoilers: Mean Mermaids, Multiple Deaths and More!

September 25th, 2013 11:06 AM by Jim Halterman

Ready to take a trip to Neverland?

Once Upon a Time Season 3 kicks off on Sunday, as most of our favorite characters are on board the same ship, heading to Peter Pan's home, desperate to rescue Henry.

Having viewed advanced screenings of the first two new episodes, I can safely say they do NOT disappoint - and I can warn fans about the following spoilers as I offer up a few teases and tidbits regarding what's on tap...

    CITAZIONE
All our characters are figuring out whether they're believers and/or need to accept who they truly are. This is definitely not an easy task for any of them but especially for Emma.
Ever been stuck on a car trip with people who easily get under your skin? That pretty much describes the voyage on Hook's ship. (The bickering is fun but watch for punches to be thrown - and not only by the men!)
If you think all mermaids are sweet and full of goodness like Ariel (JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who we'll meet in the November 3 episode), think again.
Someone voluntarily takes a swim on the voyage.
More than one person dies in the first hour.
Though I won't say Captain Swan shippers will be completely satisfied, Hook definitely doesn't hide his interest in a certain blonde on the show.
Gold/Rumple does what he usually does: takes matters into his own hands. (He is so not a team player!)
No signs of new romance for Regina... yet... but Lana Parrilla does have some of the best lines in the episode. And, as you'd expect, the sea air does not stop her from looking amazing!
We know Neal is alive and we'll see him encounter more than a few familiar faces.
Henry is still a believer in magic, but that doesn't mean he's out of danger.
We meet someone that even Rumplestiltskin is afraid of.
Hook may have some new competition in the dream boat department when we meet Robin Hood (now played by Sean Maguire).

Will Once Upon a Time fans see how Regina adopted Henry this season? –Ishan
“Yes,” series cocreator Adam Horowitz confirms. “Before our Christmas break, we plan to show the why and the how of how baby Henry came to his new mother.” Fun fact: I will be moderating the Once Upon a Time/Wonderland panel at New York Comic-Con on Saturday, Oct. 12. Got questions?

    CITAZIONE
I’ve heard a rumour that we will meet Rumple’s father in Once Upon a Time Season 3. Is this real? –OUAT Spain
This much is real: Episode 4, titled “Nasty Habits,” will serve up Rumple’s first backstory of the season. “We’ve hinted in the past that his father was a coward and that his father’s name was something that haunted him and that his father left him,” cocreator Eddy Kitis reminds. “He definitely seems to have [Daddy issues].”

Once Upon a Time Season 3 Preview: Captain Swan Feelings, 'Demon' Pan and 12 More Teases

    by Vlada Gelman

Once Upon a Time Season 3 SpoilersTVLine took a trip to Neverland (or at least Burbank) to screen the first two episodes of Once Upon a Time Season 3 (premiering Sunday at 8/7c), and we came back with a treasure chest of teasers.

    • The season premiere opens with a flashback to 11 years ago, during which Emma faces an emotionally conflicting moment that showcases some of Jennifer Morrison’s best work on the series.

    • As we told you, Greg and Tamara really should have asked the Home Office more questions about their mission.

    • Believing that Neal is dead, Emma and Hook — who notes that he spent quite some time with Baelfire — drink to their fallen friend/loved one. While this scene is touching, there’s plenty of flirty ones between them, too, thanks to Hook, who seems to be winning over more than one member of the Charming family.

    • Mermaids are mean! And liars! So basically, they’re fishy mean girls.

    • Even meaner than the creatures from the ocean? Peter Pan! Hook sums it up perfectly when he says, “He’s a bloody demon.” And yes, viewers will meet Pan rather soon into the return. All we’ll say is the actor behind the villainous new character nailed it.

    • Regina is forced to work with Emma, Snow, Charming and Hook to get back Henry, which provides for some fantastic one-liners.

    • While Storybrooke isn’t seen in the first two episodes, you’ll still get a glimpse of that world through Rumple’s personal crisis.

    • There are five people on the Jolly Roger: Emma, Snow, Charming, Regina and Hook. Four out of those five throw punches at one another in the season opener.

    • The Oct. 6 hour will feature flashbacks to the Enchanted Forest shortly after Charming woke up Snow from her sleeping curse. The Evil Queen — sporting some spectacular couture — presents them with an offer that forces Snow to accept who she really is, while Emma is facing the same challenge in the present. Be warned: There will be tears.

    • For those puzzled by Rumple’s (or is it Mr. Gold’s?) appearance in this clip, his “half-and-half” look will be explained.

    • Another realm gets name-checked in the second episode, and no, it’s not Wonderland.

    • Some real-life fairytale films get hilariously referenced, prompting one person to ask, “What’s a movie?”

    • Henry + pixie dust = weeee!

    • It’s all about belief. And in Neverland, not having an imagination may be your greatest downfall.

What can you tease about Once Upon a Time's premiere? — Jessica
NATALIE: It's very action-packed. There will be fighting — seriously, at least two people get punched in the face and it's awesome — flying and betrayal. But before we get to Neverland, the third season will pick up in the real world with a moment fans have been waiting for since the beginning of the series. But manage your expectations: You won't get the whole story about that moment until Episode 9.
